# Glossary

> Definitions of the Solana and Shredo terms used in the documentation: shreds, decoded transactions, deduplication, gaps, signed catalogues and tombstones.

## Decoded transaction

A signed Solana transaction reconstructed from observed shreds. Signature validation does not prove that the transaction executed or became final.

## Deduplication

Suppressing repeated packets for the same shred identity before UDP delivery.

## Gap

A point where complete continuity cannot be proven. Recovery follows the selected stream's published reconnect contract.

## Shred

A packet-sized unit used by Solana's data propagation and erasure-recovery pipeline.

## Signed catalogue

An immutable, verifiable inventory generation containing pool identities, dependencies, lineage, and tombstones.

## Tombstone

An explicit removal record in a catalogue generation, allowing consumers to remove a pool identity without treating an incomplete download as a deletion.
